Intellectual Property Crime
Counterfeiting and piracy are intellectual property(IP) crimes, Counterfeiting is willful trade mark infringement. Infringement means using or copying a trade mark or copyrighted material without permission from the IP owner.
Counterfeiting is a serious threat to business, consumers and government. No product is too cheap to counterfeit and no brand immune; luxury goods, foodstuffs, automotive parts, sophisticated pharmaceuticals and electronics are all threatened.
To make a brand unique and to ring-fence return on investment brands have to nail down the intellectual property in all marketing materials. Trade marks protect the graphic representation of the name as well as slogans and logos. Design rights
cover the shape, decoration and pattern of a product as well as its packaging. Copyright protects the expression of anything original in the brochures and websites.
All taken together, these rights give our clients a number of powerful remedies to clamp down on any single act of copying. By registering the IP in your brand, the clients sidesteps having to build a case against any wrongdoers. The law is than in their favor.
